The Park was created over 50 years ago by a dedicated group of Kanawha County residents.  It has grown into one of the most beautiful parks in the region.  Located 10 minutes from downtown Charleston, WV, the park includes over a thousand acres of woodland, hiking and biking trails, a handicapped accessible 18 hole par three golf course, an Olympic size pool, picnic shelters of all sizes, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, bike rentals, pedal boat rentals and a modern playground area.  Meeting and reception room rentals are also available. Coonskin has recently added a modern amphitheater, 2000 seat soccer stadium and a Wedding Garden.

Programs throughout the year include numerous golf events, athletic events, children's events, nature activities, birding, concerts and a winter light display.

Hours: Dawn to dusk every day.  Closed Thankgiving and Christmas Day.

Directions: Exit 99 off I-64, Route 114 North (Greenbrier Street) 2.5 miles, turn left on Coonskin Drive, Park entrance 1 mile.

Shelters: The Park begins taking reservations by phone for shelters the second Monday of January.  The popular shelters book very early.  Full payment is due at the time of rental.

Amphitheater: 
The Schoenbaum Amphitheater is a covered symphony size facility with a 60' by 40' stage.  It opens up to a festival seating area that can seat 10,000 people.  A 400 square foot green room is attached to the facility.  It can accommodate large concerts and theater productions.

Arm Bands:  Arm bands are available for groups.  Minimum 35.  They may be purchased at the Administrative Office.  Please purchase at least two days prior to event.  Good for one day use only.

Family Center:  Available for rental year round, and is ideal for birthday parties.  Call 341-8017. Closed Thankgiving and Christmas Day

Fishing:  Fishing at Herscher Lake is for Class Q Licenses (10 and under and handicapped) March through May.  Open fishing June through February. 

Golf Course:  Eighteen hole Executive Par 3 golf course and pro shop.  Opening and closing times vary with the season.  Phone: (304) 341-8013.

Miniature Golf:  The course is located next to the Family Center near the pond.  Course is open Summer and weekends Spring and Fall.  Rates: $2.00. 

Pedal Boats:  Located on Herscher Lake, available throughout warm weather. Rates: $4.00 per 1/2 hour (seats up to four people).

Playground: The Family Center area has two new playground facilities, for ages 2 to 5 and ages 5 - 12.  These popular playgrounds sport a loose rubberized surface. Vending and phone nearby.

Pool: Olympic 50 meter pool opens Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Hours are 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM Sunday through Friday and 11:00 AM through 7:00 PM Saturday.  We reserve the right to close the pool due to weather or other reasons.

Room Rentals: 

The Coonskin Clubhouse has two beautiful rooms available for rental.  The Hearth Room is glassed on two sides, has a large attached kitchen, a dance floor, and a large stone wood-burning fireplace. 

Both rooms are available year round except for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The Oak Room has three sides in glass, a serving kitchen and dance floor.  Available 363 days a year (closed Christmas and Thanksgiving days).  Popular for meetings, wedding receptions, parties, dinner theaters, graduations, and dances.  Decorated for Christmas (call early).   Accommodates 150 persons.  Parking for 200 cars per room.. 

Soccer Field:  The Schoenbaum Soccer Stadium sports a 360' by 225' groomed field.  The facility seats 2000, and has concession and restroom facilities.

Tennis Center:  The Ivan F. Boiarsky Tennis Center includes six hard courts and one har-tru court.  Call for reservation for har-tru.  Other courts are first-come unless a tournament or high school event is scheduled.
